AN AMERICAN SPORTSMAN RETIRES. By Telegraph.— Association.— Copyright London, October 23. The American sportsman, Mr. W. 0. Whitney, who had furnished the winner of the English Derby in 1901 with Volodyovski, is retiring from the English turf. RICOARTON TRAINING NOTES. [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] CHKISTCHUECH, Saturday. Treadmill, with Brave Heart as a companion over the last seven furlongs, ran a mile and a-qnarter front a standing 1 start in 2m. 135., a splendid performance. Quarryman got over the same . distance in 2m. 155., Windwhistle and Djin-Djin assisting him. Strathavon covered the la.st seven furlongs of a mile gal op in Im. 365. So far the Aucklander's work has not been attractive. Leonore ran ten furlongs ip 2m. 15s. Rosea!
