PILFERING CARGO.
[by telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Tuesday. Pilfeking of cargo en ocean-going steamers is frequently reported, and with the view of affording an example of what will be done to offenders in this way when they are detected, a sailor from the Pa.pa.mu was to-day sentenced by the stipendiary magistrate to six month's imprisonment for stealing four pairs of stockings and a pair of boots from the hold of the steamer.
