Ibex and Wakeful soon established a strong lead, and were in company till entering the straight, where Abundance shot up on the inside, with Emir on the outside. Then Postillion appeared on the scene, and shot up between Emir and Abundance, but the latter was able to easily stall off the ohallenge, and won by a length and a-half, with Emir a length away third; then came Ibex and Wakeful together. . After going half-a-mile Glenelg went to the front, and won, pulling up, by four lengths in front of The African, who beat Sheridan after a good finish by a neck for second place. Persist was fourth.
