; " Ooboicandel, Monday. IfeE usual moh-tlily meeting of the Gotomandel County Council was held to-day, the '• pouncillors present being Messr3. Swindley (chairman), O'Brien, Bryee, Harrison, Daldy, Hornibrook, and Carroll. Correspondence was read from the Thames .County Council M to a petition to bo sent to the Minister for Lands regarding Piako lands. It was resolved, "That tins Council will support tho petition and help in every way, but that •the petition must be sent to Coromandcl for. signature and that the chairman and Mr. Harrison, sign the same." The Mines Department have granted a subsidy of £15 each ; to Prospectors Dyer and O'Keefe, and Horn and Mclsaacs. The Kuaotunu Cemetery Trustees wrote asking for a subsidy of £7 10s for fencing. This was granted it it can be legally given. The engineer wap instructed to report on the Matamataharakeke Road, and to expend £5. A further grant may bo given for improving the road. WhangapouaKennedy's Bay Road: The engineer to spend £15 on the road to bast advantage. A special meeting of the Council is to be held on Monday, August 17, to discuss the system of contracting at present in vogue in the county and to make such alterations and amendments as may be deemed necessary. It was decided that a rate of six farthings in' the £ be struck for the ensuing year. Water rate: It was resolved that owing to tho amount of money in hand the rate collector only collect |d in the £ on the loan special rate, that amount being deemed sufficient to meet all interest and sinking fund charge* for the period. Accounts amounting to £458 5s 6d were passed for payment.
