DEATH OF A FAMOUS ARTIST.

London, July 18 Mr. James McNeill Whistler, the well-known artist, is dead. He was 68 years old.
Mr. Whistler was born at Lowell, Massachusetts, lie was a brilliant and original painter and etcher, with a genius for setting the Philistines by the ears. He sued Ruakin for libel, and was awarded one farthing damages.
