ABBREVIATED SKIRTS

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Christchurch, Saturday. The athletic girl has broken out in a fresh place in Christchurch. She has now taken up waking as an exercise, and as the result of her decision the Christchurch Walking Club has sprung into existence. A modicum of dress reform also finds a place in the plub's programme, for it ha 3 been decided that lady members must adopt for their walks a "sensible walking costume, with the »kirt reaching just halfway down the calf. The costume is to be tailor-made, and neat gaiters are to be worn with the abbreviated skirt. At an "At Home" given to inaugurate the birth of the club, several young ladies wore the new dress, tuough a majority of the lady guests remained faithful to the trailing skirt. The club has a fair prospect of success, especially as gentlemen are now to be admitted as members.
