CANTERBURY SOCIETY OF ARTS.

fat TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Christchurch, Saturday. jThe Canterbury Society of Artists has now on view six oil paintings, the work of English artists, which it has imported in the hope that local patrons of art may purchase them for the permanent collection at the Art Gallery. The artists represented are: Sheridan Knowles, Terrick Williams, Heby Smith, R. B. A. Douglas Almond, R, J. W. Breakspeare, and Mills MeLund. Already Sheridan Knowles' work, a large canvas 6ft by 4ft, has been bought for the gallery for £100 by the Hon. J. T. Peacock. Several of the pictures were exhibited at last year's Academy, and all are well calculated to add to the attractiveness and educational value of the gallery.
