For the two months of January and February the value of living animals imported into Groat Britain for food was £1,062.537, as compared with £1,129,957 in 1902. The number of „ cattle was 57,174, as against 62,263 last year; and sheep and lambs, 43,093, against 77,672. The value of meat imported during the two months was £7,784,860 (ineluding animals for food), against £7,722,368 in 1902. Tho quantity of fresh beef was 583,123cwt, against 629,757cwt last year; fresh mutton, 563,5690wt, against 531,3360wt last year; and frosh pork, 159.344cwt, against lS9,6locvvt. The value of hitter was £2,428,631, against £3,542,577; margarine, £396,065, against £424,366; cheese, £709,104, against £585,932; condensed milk, unsweetened, £14,129, against £20,952; condensed milk, sweetened, £298,421, against £283,765; and eggs, £827,920, against £881,985. The value- of grain and flour was £9,239,105, against £10,466,072.
The retiring president of the Canadian Horticultural Association gives it as his belief that as many as 12,000 persons are employed in the florists' business in the Dominion of Canada.
It appears that the well-known Mr. Burbank has been at work on the pampas grass (Gynerium), with the result that he has produced a new, very early, tree-flowering, rosecoloured variety.
