NEWS FROM COUNTRY DISTRICTS.

[from. ot;r own correspondents.] PAEROA. The Paeroa Fire Brigade has for some time past felt very keenly the need of finances, owing principally to several active members of the Fire Prevention Council leaving the district. In consequence, a meeting of householders was held on Thursday night last, and the whole question was thoroughly discussed, though, unfortunately, there were not many householders present. The annual report of the brigade was submitted, showing that threeyear certificates had been granted to Firemen Howie, Delaney, Gwillam, and ex-Fireman Buckeridge. In the discussion which ensued it was pointed out that owing to the inactivity of the council the usual subscriptions had not been collected. a.nd as a result neither the annual subscriptions to the association' nor the insurance premiums of the brigade members had been paid. It was proposed that the brigade manage its own affairs, bat eventually it was agreed that Messrs. Poland, Porritt, and Hunt be elected to the Fire Prevention Council.
