ACCIDENT AT A RIFLE RANGE.

A MARKER SHOT. [BT TELEGRAPH.PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Sunday. While the Post and Telegraph Rifles were .class-firing at the Polhill Gully range yesterday afternoon, a serious misadventure occurred. A young man named Richard Penfold, one of the markers, stepped' out of the markers' shelter to readjust a target as the marksmen retired from the 200 yds to the 500 yds range, and he by some means, it is said, put up the signal, " Continue firing." Not noticing the man in front of the target, Sergeant Roache took a shot, and the bullet struck Penfold on the shoulder-blade, and, passing along the spine, emerged half-way down the back. Penfold is now in a serious condition at the hospital.
