MOTOR LAUNCH FATALITY.
[BT TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Christchtjrch, Sunday. The body of George Spring, who was drowned by the capsizing of a motorlaunch on Sumner bar on March 15, was found on New Brighton Beach to-day. At the inquest this afternoon, the jury stated they were of opinion that signals should go up whenever the bar was dangerous. The coroner asked whether or not the jury desired to bring a verdict of manslaughter against the pilot. After a further retirement, the jury returned a verdict that deceased, being in the oil launch, and endeavouring to cross th€ bar in a heavy sea, the launch upset; further, that the upsetting of the launch, and the death of deceased was caused by the neglect of Pilot Day, inasmuch as he did not hoist dangei signals, which it was his duty to have done. The coroner said it would be seen what further was to be done in the matter. He did not considei it necessary to take any steps at ! the moment.
