ATHLETIC NOTES:

HOOKEY. Thehe is every indication that this season hockey olubs will he established in and around Auckland. Hookey is played in nearly all the Southern centres, where it has got a. strong hold, and there is no reason why it should not meet with the same success here. If a few clubs were formed interclub matches could be arranged and thus a good start would be given to the game. The Remuera district is about to form a hockey club. GOLF. The first of the .regular matches of the season at the Cornwall Park links was played on Saturday by the members of the Auckland Golf Club. The usual 18-hole course was played, ana a field of 20 competitors took part in the match, which was a bogey handicap. The best result was that of J. R. Hooper, who from scratch returned a score of two down. This score was tied by another competitor, who returned a card showing the- result as three down. On checking the card it was found that the true result was two down, but in accordance with the rules the result of three down had to stand good. Other scores were: Dr. T. Hone Lewis (handicap, 9 strokes), 3 down ; E. Turner (3 strokes), 3 down; H. T. Gillies (plus I stroke), 3 down; A. Peel (3 strokes), 4 down; R. A. Carr (4 strokes), 5 down; J. R.
