PETROLEUM AT GREYMOUTH.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Greymouth, Tuesday. In Dobson, boring for coal, indications of petroleum oil have been struck. The borehole is now down 1750 ft. At 1300 ft signs oi oil were found, but no special attention was given to it; since then the indications have become much stronger, and a gallon or two of oil was saved. Gasfeeders also struck a borehole in yellow marl, from which oil can be squeezed. The drill is in a very soft substance, and 10 or 12 gallons of oil have been obtained. It seems to be good quality of petroleum, and readily ignites and burns well.
