After Mr- Booker Washington's address to the Negro National Convention in the Baptist Church at Birmingham, Alabama, the cry of " Fire !" was raised, and a stampede occurred. The exits became blocked and a number walked on the heads of the crowd. One hundred and fifteen were killed, the majority being smothered. Many other negroes were injured.
