THE COMING ELECTIONS.
Amongst possible candidates for the Bay of Plenty seat is Mr. Robert King, storekeeper, of Te Puke. Mr. Malcolm Niccol is mentioned as a probable candidate for the Waitemata electorate. Our Paparoa correspondent states that on the Bth just. Mr. Gerald Peacocks gave a political address to a meeting of electors at that place. Mr. W. H. Jackman, of Yvhakapirau, presided. Mr. Peacocke stated that he was holding preliminary meetings with the view of ascertaining the probable support he would obtain in that locality if he decided to stand for the Kaipara electorate. He announced himself as a supporter of the present Government. At the close of the address it was arranged to call a further meeting o£ electors to decide by ballot whether to request Mr. Peacocke to I become a candidate or not.
The Amalgamated Society of Engineers have selected Mr. J. Fawcus as their choice for Labour candidate, whilst Messrs. Rosier and Fawcus have been nominated by the Birkenhead Sugar Workers. Instructions have been, issued by the Government that the main electoral rolls are to be completed within three weeks from the present time, and that the rolls will then be printed. The main and supplementary rolls, when completed, will be exhibited at the post offices in the various electorates. The Wellington Trades and Labour Council has been in communication with the labour unions in the city, in order to ascertain whether they were in favour of taking part in [tarty politics or of organising a separate body to deal with them. So far, 10 replies have been received against taking part in party polities, two in, favour of the movement and eight in favour of establishing a separate organisation.
