Susan Parker, wife of the prisoner, who appeared in Court with her head wrapped up in a shawl, gave evidence, lis also did Elizabeth Martin, the mother of Mr. Parker, and several witnesses, which supported the facts as detailed in last summary. Prisoner reserved his defence, and was committed to stand his trial at the next sittings of the Supreme Court. A daring robbery, which appears to have been very carefully planned and coolly carried out, was perpetrated at Parnell late on the 19th of June, when Mr. G. F. Fowler, treasurer of the Loyal Parnell Lodge, 1.0.0.P., M.U., was 'robbed, in front of the gate of his residence, of the sum of about £85, the fund of the lodge. The handbag was found in some scrub under a hedge in Gibraltar Crescent. The bag contained all the lodge papers and nine/pence in silver, but the post office orders, cheques, and postal notes, representing over £84, were missing. The Tutanekai has laid a cable to Stewart Island for use as a telephone. Sir J. G .Ward and party were on board. The cable will cost £4000. The work was only ordered by the PostmasterGeneral on the sth of June, and is said to be the most expeditionsly-eou-structed cable known. It was laid in one day by the- Tutanekai without a hitch..
