Mr. G. Kroxpeld returned from the Islands yesterday by the Manapouri. Dr. J. E. and Mrs. Wolfhagen, M.8., were passengers from the Islands by the .Manapouri yesterday. ■Our Waihi correspondent states that Mr. Fra&Jr Barber, of Waihi, well known in footbailv circles, was seized with a sudden illness on Sunday. His friends will be glad to learn that; he has now so far recovered as to be able to. leave his bed. " > A Wellington TpTess Association telegram states that the MaVO r of Wellington has received the Royal Hum™ Society's silver medal for presentation' fcC Mrs. Malcolm Niccol as reward for saving Hi™ drowning three young women in the Auckland Harbour in February last. In our London correspondent's letter/ published on Tuesday last, it was mentioned that Lieutenant F. Symon, of the New Zealand Permanent Militia, was presented to the King at a levee at. St. James' Palace, early in May. Lieutenant Prank Symon is an Aucklander, being a son of the late Mr. B. B. Symon, for many years a resident of the city. He is connected with the submarine mining branch of the New Zealand Permanent Force, and is at present undergoing a long course of instruction in London.
