TRIAL OF GENERAL SMITH. By Telegraph.—Press Association.— New York, April 30. The evidence given at the trial of General Smith, which is proceeding at Manila, showed that the inhabitants of the island of Samar of all ages were guilty of savage treachery, massacring American soldiers and making it necessary to adopt the sternest measures.
