CHARGE OF HORSESTEALING.

[BY telegraph.—l'KKSS association.] VV.VNUAXur, Thursday. A clever capture of an alleged horse thief was effected by Detective Bishop yesterday. The accused man is charged with stealing a home of the value of £25, at Hawera. ( The animal was then sold as a remount for South Africa. Subsequently, it is stated, the accused took another horse, and came through Wanganui on his way south, obtaining a third horse before reaching Turakina, where he was arrested. When accosted by the detective he denied his guilt, at the same time drawing an open knife. The detective threatened to blow the accused's brains out if the knife was not put down, and the man surrendered. He afterwards admitted stealing the three horses.
