The store and dwelling-house occupied by Mr. Samuel Ross, situated at the corner of Franklyn and Terrace Streets, Block 27, narrowly escaped being destroyed by fire shortly after live o'clock this evening. ft appears that one of the household had been blowing the fire in the kitchen with the bellows, and evidently a spark had lodged in one of the window-curtains, for a few moments afterwards the curtains were ablaze, and the surrounding wall was soon ignited. Fortunately the outbreak was quickly observed, and steps taken to quench it, which was accomplished after damage to the extent of about 25s had been done. Mr. Rosa has a policy for £75 in the Sun Office on his stock and furniture, but it is not known whether the building is insured. The latter is owned by Mr. W. Otter, of Newmarket.
