A quantity of gorse in a paddock off Ponsonby Road, belonging to Tole Bros., caught fire about two p.m. on Wednesday. No damage was done, but as several houses adjacent were endangered, Captain Copplestone, of the Ponsonby Fire Brigade, turned out with a three-reel hose, and after some difficulty suppressed the flames. The cause of the tire is unknown, but as the paddock is a favourite resort for school children to play in, it is supposed that the guise was ignited by them. Messrs. Samuel Vaile and Sons hold an important sale of freehold properties at two p.m. to-day, when they will offer a fino property in Chapel and Hobson Streets; also, farm.-, at Pukekohe, Wuikumetc, etc.; cottages anil allotments at Devonport, Mount Eden, etc.
