The Hon. W. Burton, who has been on a holiday visit to Auckland, left for Fiji by the Taviuni yesterday. ' v ;. Mr. William Grumitt, manager of the Oamaru branch of the Bank of New South Wales, and one of the oldest servants of the ■ institution in the colony, has tendered his resignation to the Board of Directors in Syd-:--v:::;.'-, ~■•■■ ney. ; ' . The Rev. Dr. Marshall, >of the Scots ■-,} j ■ Church, Melbourne, who is to leave on, a lengthened?; holiday tour towards the end of the year, is endeavouring to arrange for ■ the Rev: Dr. .Watson (lan Maclaren), the I.;": .well-known writer, to act as his locum .A' tenens. ■■ V: : '-.'. Our Maungakaramea correspondent writes:' j '• The interesting wedding of Mr. John Courtney, jun., to Miss Isa ; Anderson, at ■■■'■■ the residence of the bride's parents, recently, was witnessed by a number of guests, when the Rev. •W. P. Matthews, of . Whangarei, conducted the ceremony. The bride was most tastefully attired in a cream lustre , - robe, trimmed with white silk and lace. Misses Anderson and Mary Courtney acted '/■';';■ ;a3 bridesmaids and Mr. George Courtney as groomsman.;, By invitation, about 70 of .the friends of the bride and bridegroom met ";'wat an evening party in the hall, when every- ','.''■■' one present passed a pleasant time. A very pretty wedding was celebrated in St. Patrick's Church, Patea, on November 9, 1901, the • contracting parties being Mr. W. A. Quin and Miss A. W.M. Flvnu, both of Hawera. The Rev. ; Father Mulvihill,; of New Plymouth, officiated at the marriage ~ and nuptial mass. The bride, who was ; given away by her father, wore a handsome : dress of soft white silk, trimmed with satin and sprays of orange blossoms, lovely veil . embroidered by her mother, and wreath of './,'-•" orange blossoms, and instead of the usual bouquet she carried an ivory -covered prayer book. There were five bridesmaids, i three of whom were sisters of the bride. Miss Katie Flynn wore a stylish" dress of • white-flowered. muslin, white hat trimmed with tips, chiffon and violets; Misses Julie .-"'".' and Mollis Flynn, white muslin frocks, buttercup silk sashes, white hats trimmed . with white silk and buttercups. Little - Misses Mary Dolan (cousin of the bride), and Eileen McKenna (niece of the bridegroom), dainty white frocks, with wreaths and veils. The bridesmaids carried bou?uets to match the colours of their dresses, he bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr. Fred Quin, as best man. The " Wed- :; ding March " (Mendelssohn) was played by S Mrs. Rupert Jacomb as the bridal" party "- left the church amidst showers of rice. After the ceremony tho: newly -wedded couple, with a number of relatives and friends, adjourned to the residence of Mr. J. A. McKenna, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, where a sumptuous breakfast was partaken of. In proposing the health of the bride and bridegroom, the Rev. leather Mulvihill spoke of the very great plcasme it gave him to be present, and to officiate at the ceremony. He had known both Mr. and Mrs. Quin as children, and had been the religious instructor to the latter from her childhood. He wished them every blessing and prosperity. The Rev.
