A ARAN A RIFLE CLUB.
THE members of the Akarana Rifle Club fired competitions on Saturday afternoon at the Avondale range for two geld medals, presented by Messrs. Read Bros, and Mr. E. T. Buchanan for A and B classes respectively. The distance and number of shots for each trophy were identical, namely, seven shots at 3Coyds, sCoyds, and 600 yds. There was a good attendance of competitors and visitors, and notwithstanding the unsteady wind and very changeable light, some brilliant shooting was done. The winner of the A class competition turned up in. Mr. It. G. Cox, whoso splendid, achievement of 100 out of a possible 105 is a tie with the record put up by Mr. E. Buchanan at the same ranges on a former occasion, and is the second " century" that has been established by members of the club (taring - the present season. Mr. Cox, who won the above medal on the last occasion upon which it was lived for, now becomes its possessor according to the conditions. Mr. C. Newall came in a good second, with the fine total of 97. • ' In the junior division Mr. .T. Anderson proved to bo the winner, with the good aggregate of . 87, Messrs. A. G. Cooke and E. Buchanan, jun.. securing second And third places with 85 each to v their credit. The best individual range scores were the 32 each put up by Messrs. Cox and Mcintosh, and the 31 each by Messrs. Phillips and Anderson at the short range. At EOOyds Mr. Cox attained the " possible," and was closely followed by Messrs. Newell, Tobin, Maughau, and Potter, with 34 each, w'lilst Messrs. J. Carlaw, Doughtv, and Browne each put up 33. At 600 yds Messrs. Cox, Newell. Carlsetn and Dormer each scored 33, and Messrs. Tobin and E. Buchanan each 32.
