THE SPANISH - AMERICAN WAR.
BRITAIN'S FRIENDSHIP FOR AMERICA. By Telegraph.—Press Association.— ' London, January 21. Lord Cranbobne, speaking in the House of Commons, announced that prior to the Spanish-American War several of the Powers suggested forwarding a joint note to the United States. Britain, having ascertained America's wishes, joined in, hoping for a peaceful settlement, with guarantees acceptable to America. During the war Britain refused to join in proposals for putting pressure on America by offering an opinion on America's attitude.
