DEATH OF MR. WALTER JAMES HILL.
Our > readers will regret to learn of the death of Mr. Walter James Hill, an old and much-respected member of the legal profession in Auckland. Since his retirement from practice some live years ago, Mr. Hill has been in indifferent health, and .during the last four months he has suffered intense!}, his illness beiiif, diabetes, latterly complicated by some internal growth. A week ago he underwent an operation, but chiefly to relieve him of pain, his medical attendants seeing no hope of saving his life. He passed away at Woodside Private Hospital yesterday. Deceased came to the colony from England -with his parents in the fifties, and having been trained to the law by his father, who established a practice in Auckland, he was admitted in 1863, and entered into partnership with his father as Henry Hill and Son. He continued this practice for some years after his father's death, till 1884, when he entered into partnership with Mr. Edmund Mahony, and the firm of Hill and Mahony was continued till 1897, when Mr. Hill retired owing to failing health, Deceased was a man of considerable legal ability, and had the respect of all with whom he came in contact in business. Since his retirement he has been living in Arney Road, Remuera, but took a good deal of interest in a large farm which he owned on the Pukekobe-Waiuku Road. Mr. Hill, who had attained the age of 62, leaves a widow and five children.
