ACCIDENT AT THE GRAVING DOCK
Yesterday afternoon a number of the workmen engaged in cleaning the hull of the barque Woosung, at present in the "Auckland Graving Dock, met with an accident through a scaffolding giving way, but- fortunately hone of them were very seriously injured. It appears that the men were working at a height of some 16ft from the flooring of the dock, when the scaffolding, unable to bear the strain, gave way, and they were precipitated to the bottom. One of the workmen named. Greenbank fell on his shoulder arid dislocated his arm, while another, Doyle by name, landed on his feet tearing the ligaments of both, and straining his buck, and a third named Stanton met with a slight injury to his back. Others on the scaffolding escaped with nothing worse than a severe shaking. Drs. De Clive Lowe and Goldie attended to the injured men, and the two first-named were removed to ,the hospital in the ambulance, where they were treated by the medical officer in charge, Dr. Collins. On inquiries being made last night, both men were progressing favourably towards recovery, no serious results being anticipated.
