THE CHEVIOT EARTHQUAKES.
FURTHER SHOCKS.
". [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CmusTcinmcH, Friday. A severe shock of earthquake was felt at Cheviot at twenty-six minutes past two this morning, ranking one of the biggest since the first disturbance. The shock was accompanied by a loud rumbling, which kept up some time, interspersed with light shocks and tremors. Beyond slight . damage to. brickwork, nothing serious in reported, Disappointment is felt by the settlers at the recurrence of the shocks, but there is no panic. Wellington, Friday.
The postmaster at Cheviot wires that a violent shock of earthquake occurred at twenty-six minutes past two this morning, preceded by tremendous boomings, and followed by eight distinct shocks.
