TRANSFER OF SHARES.
AN IMPORTANT CASE,
[by telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION.] Christchtjbch, Wednesday. In banco this morning an application was made to the Judge to direct the registration of a- transfer of 10 shares in the Timaru Milling Company, from S. F. Smithson, of Timaru, to E. H. Lough, of Dunedin. The application was opposed on the ground that a number of shares had been transferred to nominees and agents of the New Zealand Flow-millers' Association, of whom Mr. Lough was one, with the object of gaining control of the company's affairs, and extinguishing competition by forcing the company to join the association.' In giving judgment the Judge said there was nothing in the transaction to show that the object was Hot legitimate enough. The transferees had a right to have the shares registered, and should not remain in suspense. The sellers also had a right to insist that they should be relieved from any possible obligation in connection with the shares. On that ground alone the motion should be allowed. / A similar motion for the registration of another transfer was also allowed.
