SETTLEMENT OF THE KING COUNTRY.
SALE OF KAWHIA LANDS DELAYED. We regret to announce that the sale of Kawhia lands will not take place in time for settlement at the beginning of the year, according to the Minister's promise. The 'excuse nut forward is that owing to complaints respecting the Government valuations, it was necessary to have an independent valuation of the land, The survey is completed, and the plans are now lying in the Lands Office in Auckland, awaiting the completion of an independent valuation now being made by Mr. Langley, of Kawhia. It is hoped that this will be completed in time for the sale to be held about the middle of February. Some 00,000 acres should then be thrown open for settlement, and the balance of the Crown lands in the Kawhia district is now being surveyed, but at the rate of progress we have been accustomed to it will probably bo a considerable time before this is ready for settlement.
