AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE REPORT.-.Thursday, July 25, 1901.

Since our last Summary the proposals of the Government in respect to State fire insurance and the statements of the Premier in regard to the Bank of New Zealand have had a very disturbing influence upon the stock market, and in some cases quotations show a considerable fall. The Auckland Gas Company has had a successful half-year, and is paying the usual dividend. The National ; Bank is also paying a dividend and bonus, making the dividend for the year equal to 10 per cent. The Hikurangi Coal Company also paid the usual interim dividend, equal to 10 per cent.- per annum. ; Banks: Nationals sold at £3 17s 6d, £3 19s, £4 cum dividend, and close with sellers at £4. Bank of New Zealands sold at £2 7s, and close with sellers at £2 10s, but this price is merely nominal. Insurances: A fair business in these at falling prices. New Zealands sold at £3 3s and £3 2s, and close with sellers at £3 2s 6d and buyers at £3. South British sold at £4, £3 18s 6d, £3 18s, '£3 15s, £3 . 12s 6d and £3 14s and close with sellers at £3 16s, and buyers at £3 12s 6d. Nationals sold at

18s 3d and 17s 6d, and close with buyers at 17s 3d. New Zealand Accidents sold'at £2. Gas: Auckland, fully-paids, sold at £14, £14 2s and £14 cum div., and are now offered at '£14. Auckland contributing sold up to £11 10s cum div., and there are sellers at £11 15s. Thames are offered at £1 10s. Shipping: A fair business in . the3e. Devonport Ferrys sold at £1 16s and close with sellers at £1 163 6d. Northern Steams, paid up, sold at 18s, ■ and there are.sellers at 18s 6d arid buyers at 17s 9d. Northern Steam, contributing, sold at 73 9d and 7s lOd. Sellers ask Bs, and buyers offer 7s Bd. Coals: Hikurangis are weaker, and sold at 8s 6d and 8s 3d cum div. of 10 per cent., and close with bxiyers at 7s 9u ex div. Taupiri Mines are firmer and sold at 18s 3d, 18s 4d and 18s 6d, and close with sellers at 18s 9d and buyers at 18s 3d. Westports sold at £4. Timber: Leyland and O'Briens are offered at £1 12s and there are buyers at £1 lis. Kauri Timber, paid-up, are wanted at 6s 6d, and contributing at Is 2d. Sellers of

Mining: The market for mining stocks has been very dull and but little business done. Waihis sold down to £6 3s. Waihi Extendeds sold from 3s ,6d to 2s 10c! to 3s 3d to 3s. Komata Reefs sold at 2s 4d, 2s 3d and 2s 2d. Waitekauris have been in demand and sold from 10s 6d to 13s 3d to 10s. Talismans sold at £1 2s 6d. Crowns sold at 12s. • Chelmsfords sold at Is 9d. Welcome Jack, contributing, sold at Is 3d, Is 2d and Is 3d. Hauraki Freeholds sold from 6id to lOd to' 9d.
