• INTERESTING STATISTICS. • ./' Wellington, Tuesday. , The ; report of : the Registrar of Old Age Pensions for the year ended March 33 shows that ■ the number of pensions in force on March 31, 1901,, inclusive of 1098 granted to Maoris, was 12,405, representing a yearly payment of £211,965. During the past year 2227 pensions were • granted, 815 pensioners died, 227 pension certificates were cancelled (inclusive of 202 renewal claims rejected), and 65 pensions < lapsed through non-application for renewal. . The total amount :of pension money raid during the year was £197,292, and the cost of administration was £2415. : Of the old age pension districts, Christchurch heads the list, with 1215 pensioners, drawing £20,501; Auokland comes next, with 1015, ; drawing £17,034; and then/comes Dunedin, 929, drawing £15,938; Invercargill, 540, drawing i£927B;rWellington, 496, drawing £8717; /Hokitika, 484, ; drawing / £8661; and Greymouth, : 467, , drawing £8311. \\ In 1899 y there were ) 7487 pensions granted; there v were 38 deaths,'and six pension certificates were cancelled, and there were 7443 pensions in force/at the end of the" year. In 5 1900 the figures were // 4699: pensions granted, / 786 deaths,; 65; cancellations, six lapses, and 11,285 in force at the end of the year. In 1901 ; the figures were 2227 granted, 815 deaths, 227 cancellations, 65 lapses, and 12,405 pensions in force ■at the end of the year.
