William Eorsdick, of Mercury Bay, has been appointed a justice of the Mr." Charles Ranson, manager of the _Jorthera Steamship Company, will leave for Australia by the , mail steamer . Sierra on -Monday, on a short holiday trip. V Mr. A. Kidd has received letters stating that his son Frank, who has been lying in a private hospital at Wellington, suffering from typhoid, is now making a good recovery, and may be expected in Auckland, ,if all goes well, about the end of next week. "Mrs. Kidd is at present in Wellington. ' Last night Mr. R. R. Menzies ' tendered bis resignation as one of the members for the South Ward *in the Thames Borough Council, which ward he has most efficiently represented for several years. In tendering his resignation Mr. Menzies said he did so 'with some reluctance, but as he was so frequently absent from the district on private business, he felt that he was not doing ■bis duty- to the ratepayers by. holding the i position, which he thought should be held by someone who could pay more attention "to the requirements of the'borough than he could at the present time. ' The resignation ■was received by the Council with regret. ' Mr. D. Goldie has presented Mrs. A. Kidd with a handsome solid silver salver and afternoon tea service. On the salver is engraved the following inscription :—" Presented to Mrs. A. Kidd by D. Goldie, Mayor of Auckland, in recognition of the valuable services rendered by her husband •as acting-Mavoi on various occasions during the years. 1899 and 1900. Auckland, May 24, 1901." Accompanying Lhe present was a letter testifying Mr. Goldie's appreciation of the assistance, given him by Mr. Kidd, and also recognising that owing to the time devoted bv her husband to public busi- j ness her cares had been increased. , A very pretty wedding was solemnised /in Christ Church, Coromandel, bv the vicar % (the Rev. C. F. R. • Harrison) on Wednesday \ afternoon, the contracting parties being ■ •■Dr.'' H. H. Clieeseman. surgeon of Coro- * mandel Hospital, and Miss Harrison, eldest I daughter of Mr. R. H. Harrison, J.P. Miss •Harrison, of Auckland (cousin: of the bride), I officiated at» bridesmaid, and Mi. L. T. Mair acted as groomsman. Mr. D. V. Allen played the " Wedding March," and the chefir rendered approprk>)te hymns The ■■: church was thronged with friends and spectators, testifying to the high esteem in which the young couple are held. After the ■ceremony the newly -wedded couple and the wedding guests drove to the residence of the bride's parents, Tiki Road, where the wedding breakfast was partaken of. The health of the bride and bridegroom was proposed •by Mr. Geo. Oruickshank (the recently-ap-pointed S.M. and .Warden foi Otago), and drunk in bumpers of champagne. Dr. Cheeseman replied in a happy strain. The ~ ; young couple left by the s.s. Rotomahana { - on their honeymoon trip. The presents were both numerous and valuable.
