ENTERTAINMENTS AND MEETINGS.

MUSGROYE'S' GRAND OPERA . COMPANY. Axothee packed house welcomed the revival of Bizet's charming opera "Carmen," by the Musgrove Grand Opera Company, at the Opera House last night. As on the previous occasion of its production the delightful work received an admirable representation from principals, chorus and orchestra alike. Madame Agnes Janson, in the title role, again made a good impression, and was most heartily received l as were Miss Lilian Ooomber, Messrs. Umberto Salvi and Lawrence Moon and the other artistes who appeared in the first production. The Escamillo of last night was Mr. Max Eugene, who scored a decided hit, notably in his fine rendering of the toreador's song. He both looked and performed the part well, and richly deserved the unstinted approval bestowed upon him. Miss Maud Harrington appeared in the role of Frasquita and succeeded in giving an admirable portrayal of the part. The trying orchestration of the opera offered no obstacle to the talented members of the orchestra, whilst the chorus singing was remarkably effective. A complete success attended the revival of the popular work from every point of view. During an interval between the acts.Dr. Lewis, on behalf of th© Savage Club, who had booked 55 seats in the dress circle, rose and made a short congratulatory speech. Two bouquets were then handed up to the leading ladies, and. Mr. Harry Musgrove made an appropriate reply. , To-night the company give a revival of Wagner's great lyrical poem, "Lohengrin,!' which created so great a sensation on its first production last week. '. To-morrow night " Maritana" will be repeated. .-.■/■■■. DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY. : To-night, at the City Kail, the Hay tors introduce for the last time their ludicrous sketch; "Me Too, Charlie." Alclis upon "The State and the Individual;- Their Relative Rights and Duties." The lecturer spoke at varying rates of speed for over an hour, his remarks being reported by the members. A vote of thanks to Mr. Aldis terminated the meeting, WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE . UNION. The usual meeting was held on Wednesday, 21th inst., Mrs. Thome (president) in the chair. As there was a great deal of business to be settled and not much time to satisfactorily arrange it, the meeting was adjourned. It is hoped all members will be present at the next meeting, of which due notice will be given. BERESPORD-STREET CHURCH CONCERT. The concert programmes submitted weekly at the Beresford-strcet '/ Congregational Church are proving so ■ popular that the church is well filled on every occasion. The. proceeds •of the two days' fair are ■ very satisfactory and the church debt extinction fund, of which the sale was in aid, should receive a substantial augmentation. . ~ , , . . , .":■ „ ' , *
