The truant officer of the Canterbury Education Board has drawn the Board's attention to the need for some provision permitting truant officers to inspect registers of private schools. The Board to-day resolved to bring the matter tinder the notice of the Education Department. . »'■• It whs also resolved that the Government be asked to have the School Attendance Act altered so that in cases where children had not passed the fifth standard exemption from attendance bo raised from 13 to 14 years.
