DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Devonport Borough Council held its ordinary fortnightly meeting last evening, there being present: Mr. M. Niccol (in the chair), and .- Messrs. R. H. Duder, , F. E. Mason, W. J. W. Philson, J. W. Harrison, . W. Handley, and R. Logan, jun. Correspondence: Mr. John ,D. , Ritchie . (secretary of the Agricultural Department, //>' Wellington) wrote asking > the Council to • ' ' forward to him as early as possible all applications J received in .; the thorough v for licenses for slaughterhouses under the Slaughtering and Inspection Act, 1900, and further asking the; Council. to 1 notify all; li- '', / censees :of slaughterhouses ' who have not /- applied for a license under the above Act, that it.is necessary for them to do so without further delay. The secretary, was ' instructed to reply, - informing _ Mr. Ritchie that' there were no applications and -no slaughterhouses within the borough. /'At Mr. . A. Eagleton's request it was decided to form a roadway in St. Leonard-street. Mr. Wm. Cavanagh wrote complaining of ' -the impassable condition of a portion' of .the . road in -street. It ■ was ' decided ?to attend, to the matter as soon as the weather - moderated. Mr. George Banks wrote on behalf .", of the residents in Victoria Park urging the Council to place fire-plugs in that; vicinity, and also that the Lake Road be' repaired ? and that the Council endeavour to obtain a daily postal delivery and letter ' - ■ pillar ■in % the :; locality. It was decided to give the .requests attention. .■■'.; ■•'.'■; Domains: A Gazette notice was received from the Department of Lands, Wellington, stating that the domains at Devonport were now vested under the 12th section of the : Domains Act, 1881. As the first meeting of the new. Domain Board will be held .on Tuesday, 30th . inst., the Council decided that the outgoing members of the Domain . $oard be asked to meet tho members of the Council on the 31st inst. '- Tenders: Mr. E. Ford's: tender for the "' ■ (supply of coal at 18s 6d per, ton for tensuing year to the waterworks at Lake, lakapuna was accepted. ' • Reports: The drainage inspector/reported that 18 drainage connections had been made ' . - with tho •■ main ■ sewer during the past fort- - - night. The reports of the town clerk, fore- ■' , man of works, drainage inspector and Fin- " . ' ance and Legal Committee were adopted.? Building Permits: Mrs." Handley, :; Calliope Road, and Mr. G. Banks, were granted building' permits. ,': // : _ ' Applications:' The application of Messrs. ' Henry ' Cooper and F. Cardon to quarry stone •on Rangitoto Island was granted. Mr. R. T. Graham's application for lease o!t Rangitoto Island for grazing purposes •was declined. - •■.-.. Finance: The town clerk (Mr. J. C.
