CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER.
THE ARDMORK CASE.
Emit. Berokh, a middle-aged man, was charged before Mr. T. Hutchison, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday morning with having, on the s'.h inst., at. Ardmore, attempted to murder his wife by administering poison to her.
)\ hen the ease was called, Sub-Inspector Mitchell stated that the police were ready to proceed with the case, with the exception of lie evidence of Mr. Pond, colonial analyst, who, I e understood, had not yet completed his analysis. He, then lore, asked for a furtier remand. To this the prisoner protested. The inspector stated that the poison alleged to havo been administered was so ditlieult to analyse that it required tho very careful attention of tho analyst.
In ivply to the Bench. Sub-Inspector Mitchell -aid he believed that the poison alleged to have been used was seme preparation of aconite, but he would not be certain.
'His Worship thought that the analysis should have been completed long beforo now. tin the prisoner again objecting to the remand, I!is Worship pointed out to him that if ho (the prisoner) were discharged for want of evidence*, ho would, no doubt, be rearrested at the door of tho Court.
The prisoner thereupon agreed to withdraw his objection to tho remand, and the ca-'u was ordered to stand over for a week.
