THE GOLDFIELDS.
AUCKLAND SHAREMARKET. - The Stock Exchange re-opened yesterday to quiet business. In investment lines Bank of New Zealaads were quoted at 395, buyers j advancing to 34s 6d. National Banks had j buyers at 755, no sellers quoting. Other stocks had fair demand at late prices. In mining lines Monowais were a shade easier, with sellers at 3s Id, buyers 2s 9d. May Queen-Haurakis, at Is, had inquiry at lOd. In Upper Thames lines Waihi Extendeds eased, with sales at 4s 2d and 4s 3d, late sellers asking 4s sd, with buyers at 4s 2d. Crowns had steady demand at 12s, sellers firm at 13s. For Ivomata Reefs there wjere buyers at 2s 9d, sellers 3s. Tairua Broken Hills firmed to 2s 6d, with buyers at 2s Id. Talisman Consolidateds also firmed to 26s sellers, 24s 6d buyers. Buyers of Waihis advanced to £8 10s, sellers firm at £9 ss. Consols were easier at 9d, buyers 7d. Waihi Grand Junctions were on offer at 52s 6d, no buyers quoting. Barrier Reefs hardened to 4s 6d, buyers offering 4s. In other lines late prices ruled. NEW WHAU G.M. CO. In the New Whau Gold Mining Company's mine at the Thames the hanging-wall leader at the Sons of Freedom level has been driven upon westward for Bft since its intersection. The ore body is from 6m to Bin wide, and is encased in nice white sandstone of a. kindly description. A portion of the leader which was broken down showed very encouraging indications. At No. 1 ' level the rise on the leader has been taken up a further _7ft. A drive east on the ore body is in progress, but no quartz has been broken down. BARRIER REEFS G.M. CO. The lode in the Barrier Reefs Gold Mining Company's mine at No. 3 level stopes, Barrier eastern section, is from 12in to 18in wide, of good and fair grade ore. In the western section the reef averages Ift 6in in width, of good ore for most of the block. In the stopes above No. 1 level the reef is also 18in wide, and looks well. There is a block of ground 300 ft long by about 100 ft high to be taken out here. In the Barrier Reefs section, in the stopes at No. 3 level west, the reef is from Ift to 3ft wide, of mostly good grade ore. At No. 2 level preparations are going on for the extension of the drive westward to prove the value of the lode, and to effect communication with the stopes ahead and below, also for ventilation purposes. The battery has been running as usual. WAIHI EXTENDED G.M. CO. The Waihi Extended Gold Mining Company's shaft has now attained a depth of 280 ft. There is no change in the country. EAURAKI FREEHOLDS G.M. CO. The Hauraki Freeholds Gold Mining Company are prosecuting the development of their mine at Coromandel with energy. Country of a likely nature for gold is being worked. ALPHA G.M. CO. In the Alpha Gold Mining Company'ls. mine at Waitekauri a very tight section ol country traversed by calcide veins crossed the course of No. 4 crosscut last week. A number of similar hard bars have been passed through during the last 200 ft, and none of these were very extensive. THE STANDARD EXPLORATION CO. No little importance is said to be attached to the reappearance of Mr. Frank Bull on the Thames goldtleld, where he has lately been spending several days prior to returning to London. It is stated in wellinformed circles that further reassuring news in regard to the Standard Exploration Company, with which association Mr. Bull is closely connected, has been received, and although that gentleman himself is extremely reticent on the point, and refuses at the, present moment to impart the slightest information, some important developments arc looked for in the near future.
