The pollingbooth, St. Benedict's Hall, Gladstone-street, was in charge of Mr. Gillibrand, deputy-re-turning officer, the poll clerks being Messrs. [ C. Martclli and J. K. Boyle. The polling throughout the day was large, and particularly between the hours of half-past twelve p.m. and two p.m. and from five p.m. and seven p.m., the booth being literally rushed during the latter period. The voters included a large number of Indies, .many of whom were driven to the hall in vehicles provided by the candidates, who, with their supporters, were all present during the day. The best indication of the proportion of electors who recorded their votes is to be found in a glance at tho figures of the Mayoral election. Tho total number of voters on the roll was 10,086, thp now roll being considerably larger than tho last roll, on which a municipal election was fought, the total number of electors then being 8471. Of tho 10,086 voters who wero on yesterday's roll, 4441 recorded their votes in tho Muyoral election, the proportion being
almost 50 per cent. The largest number of votes in proportion '.to* the number on the roll was recorded in Grafton Ward, where the vote was over 50 per cent- of the total on the roll. Had there been contests in the North and East Wards a 50 per cent, vote over the whole city would in all probability have been obtained.
