GOLD RETURNS.
A TOTAL OP £46,115 12s 8d FOR THREE ' WEEKS. INCREASE FOR THE QUARTER £1797. ' The gold returns for the Auckland dis- " trict for the past three weeks give a total of £46,115 12s Bd. . This shows a decrease as compared with the total for the previous three weeks, which amounted to ££51,640. During the corresponding period of last year the return was £757 in excess of the present total. . The apparent derease is accounted for, however, by the fact that several returns are nqt yet to hand. The present yield completes the returns for the first quarter of this year, which show a total of £146,686 Is 3d, or an increase over the total' for the first quarter of, 1900 of £1797 16s lOd. Hogarth, • . .r is in receipt, per tins week's Sydney mail, • of details concerning the result of the treat-: •■; ment of the parcel of concentrates shipped . to Dapto in February last. The Concentrates on arriving at Dapto weighed 27 tons llcwt. Iqr 191b, from which a deduction v of 13cwt 3qr 101b was made for moisture, etc., thus leaving a net weight of 26 tons " 17cwt 2qr 91b. The assay value of the concentrates per; ton was: i Gold, 2oz 17dwt less 2dwt 20gr, equal to 2oz 14dwt 4gr, '■• which, at £4 per oz, gives a value'per ton '' of £10 16s 8d; silver, 38oz lOdwt 12gr, less soz 6dwt sgr, equal to 530z 4dwt 7gr, at ■' 2s 4 l-16d per oz, ' equal ;to £3 17s 7d per ton lead, 11.525 per cent/, less 3.913 per cent., equal to 7.612 per, cent., at 2s 2d per unit, equal to 16s 5d per "ton ; copper. 3 ■ per cent., less 2 per -cent., equal, to 1 per cent., value lis 7d per ton. ;, The total value ■'■' of the concentrates per ton was therefore £16 2s 3d; from this, However, a deduction of £1.15s per ton has to be marii. for ' treatment charges, which leaves a value of £14 7s 3d per ton, or a total value of £386 19s 5d for the whole parcel.
