CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The Executive of the Aucklnd Chamber of Commerce met yesterday afternoon at the offices, Victoria Arcade. Mr. D. R. Caldwell, president, was in the chair, and there were also present: Messrs. J. Reid J. Hardie, W. Gunson, J. Wiseman, W. J. W. Philson, S. Vaile, M. A. Clark, A. B. Roberton, H. Finlayson, and Carl Seegner. Island Fruit .Trade: The committee appointed to inquire into the present condition of the Barotonga-Auckland orange trade, reported that so far they had not received any information which, would allow them to make any recommendation. Payment of Miners' Wages: In answer to a letter from the Chambei asking the Waihi Gold Mining Company to pay their men weekly instead of monthly as at present, the company wrote stating that they would probably be able to meet the Chambei by paying fortnightly. Mr. Philson wished to know why the Chamber had interfered in this matter. The president explained that they had been requested to take up the matter by the storekeepers. It was agreed to thank the company for the proposal.
