Miss Alick Hollander was a passenger to Sydney last evening by the Elingamite. The Bishop of Melanesia will arrive from Gisborne by the To Anau on Thursday. . The Rev. W. Wilson, of the Melanesian Mission, who has been on a visit to Eng- \ land, is a passenger by the Zealandia from ■J Sydney, and leaves for the Islands by the Southern Cross. Archbishop Redwood paid the Thames a \ flying visit yesterday, and whilst there .: visited the Catholic schools, with the man--f agement of -which he expressed himself as ;.;■-:/ being highly pleased. At His Lordship's ;'.'/ request the children were given a half-holi-J : day in honour of his visit. On the 19th ult., Lieutenant W. D. Warrington Morris, of the Royal Garrison Artillery, was land from the Britannic (conveying the Imperial Contingent) and taken to the Auckland District Hospital, being found to be suffering from scarlet fevor. His servant was also left with him. On inquiring last evening we are glad to learn that this officer is making a good recovery. ■: A very pleasant evening was spent at "Glenalvon" on Saturday last, when Miss Alice Hollander entertained the visitors with some of her charming songs, and yesterday afternoon, before the young lady left for Sydney, the guests staying at " Glenalvon" presented her .with an exquisite pearl and terquoise necklace, in appreciation of her beautiful singing and charming manners. Miss Hollander expects to open another concert season in Auckland by the beginning of next Novembei. On Friday evening last,. at a largely-at-tended concert and conversazione, the Rev. [Father Patterson was presented with a purse of sovereigns by members of all denominations in Panmure and surrounding districts.
