THE ROYAL VISIT.

London, March 17. The Duke of York, in replying to the Agents'-General joint message, states that he is greatly touched by their telegram, anticipating deep interest in the great event of the Royal visit.
King Edward presented > war medals to many seamen and marines on board the Ophir; also to Prince Alexander of Teck, the Duke of Roxburgh, ; Viscount Creighton and Colonel Byron, of Queensland.
NO GOVERNMENT SUBSIDy FOR LOCAL BODIES.
[BY TELEGRAPH ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Monday. The Premier, hi answer ;to a deputation from the City Council, said Ministers had come to a fixed determination not to subsidise the local bodies' expenditure on the reception of the Duke of Cornwall, and nothing had arisen to induce them to alter that decision.
