TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—The Hon. the Minister for Lands made a promise on August 21 that he would during the recess come to this Pongakawa district to make " arrangements for opening up the immense areas of first and second-class Crown lands that are lying idle and unproductive, and it is hoped he will bo horo next week, and devote sufficient time to see some of the many thousands of acres'that are lying totally idle, also make arrangements while here to have them at once opened for settlement. An expenditure of a few hundred pounds only would make roads to Rotorua. and Maketu. which would open enough bush and open land of good quality for 1000 or more settlers, for. there must be full 20 ' square miles of good land lying idle between the coast here and Rotorua. and the greater portion of it "idle Crown lands."
