CO-OPERATION IN DAIRYING.

[BY TF-r.EGlUl'ir.— OOBRESPONDENT.] Tk Awamvttt, Monday. A meeting of the. To Awamutu branch of the Farmers' Club was held on Saturday, when there was a large attendance. The object was to discuss the question of co-operation in dairying. Mr. Irvine explained the result of co-operation in Taranaki, and stated that all the factories had paid satisfactorily. There bod been no difficulty in getting the necessary capital. The banks ran after them for the business, and found all the capital at five per cent. There was now a joint and several bond. The shares were taken, one for every two cows, and the liability was limited to the amount of shares. He did not know a single instance where the hanks had to step in. The gale of butter did not go through the banks. The directors disposed of the butter, and experienced no difficulty, as agents of home merchants attended upon them, and made arrangements. Mr. Irvine read the fifth report and balance-sheet of the Mongorei Company. The sum of £16,465 had been distributed among the shareholders. The average price was 3.419 pence per gallon.'. The idea was to start a cooperative factory to embrace the Te Awamutu, KihJkilii, and Rangiaohia districts. It was stated that the three districts could guarantee 700 cows. The following resolution was carried unanimously -—"That in the opinion of this meeting it in desirable to place the dairy industry in this district on a co-operative basis." A provisional committee, consisting of Messrs. O'Connor, Mandeno, Irvine, McGeehie, Rons, Hellier, and Teasdale, was appointed to carry out the resolution.
