Wellington, Monday., Tire Wesleyan Conference, resumed to-day. The home mission and church extension fund was considered. The balance-sheet was presented by Mr. Prime (treasurer). The receipts were: Auckland district, £537 2s "8d; Wanganui, £190,6s 3d; Wellington, £219 3s: Nelson, £104 17s 7d: Canterbury, £'127 7s lOd; Otago, £306 3s Id; Birthday League, £85 6s lOd; rents on connexioiuii properties, £375; interest on investments, £182 10s; sale of Maori service books, £8 14s; loan from century fund, £250; total receipts for the your, £2786 lis 3d. Expenditure: Debit balance last year, £268 10s id; grants to Maori missions, £1015 2s Id; grants to home missions stations, £353 14s 2d; to home mission circuits, £975; special expenditure, £215 8s sd; general expenditure, £205 8s lOd; repaid loan to century fund, £260; total expenditure, £32R3 3s 7d. The estimated receipts for the present year are £2590 9s 3d; estimated expenditure, debit balance, £496 12s 4d; t grants to Maori missions, £989; to home mission stations, £335; to home mission circuits, £820; special expenditure, £175; general expenditure, £211; total estimated expenditure, £3024f 12s 4d; leaving a, deficiency of £436 9s Id. It was resolved that the committee be recommended to vote a sum of £350 from the century fund dining the year to this fund, thus leaving an estimated deficiency of £186 9s Id. A very hearty vote ot thanks was accorded to Mr. Prime for his past service, and lie was unanimously reappointed. The report of the supernumerary fund was received, showing receipts £1721 18s, which was remitted to the general treasurer, Melbourne.
The temperance returns were received, and it was resolved that the Conference respectfully protests against any attempt to deprive the. people of this colony of any of the power they now possess for deafling with the liquor traffic, and further to protest against any attempt; to legalise the sale of alcoholic drinks in the King Country, believing that such a step would be detrimental to the welfare of the native race. At the evening session the returns showed that there were 297 churches, with 449 other preaching places, 322 ministers, 585 local preachers, 2257 Sunday-school teachers, and /0.402 attendants at public worship in the Wesleyan Churches in New Zealand.
