Stone and Hicks .were. in ' good form, as were also the other double- , figure men. Neill was bowled by a marvel- ,'■] lous shooter from Airey. Grevilio and St. '.'■ Paul were the most- successful of the bowlers, ' .' though Airey bowled well against a strong 1 wind. The junior, fielding 14-; men, made \\ more mistakes than usual. Upon going in :.i to bat the fifteen did fairly well with SO for '<. seven wickets, Greville 28, Graham 18, and Hunter 12, being the ■double-figure scorers. ; Neill four for 43, and Clayton three for 35, had charge of the bowling, and though; perhaps not in their best fi.rin, bowled fairly well. "AT HOME" AT THE PARNELL LAWNS. t The ladies of the Parnoll Lawn Tennis Club held an "At Home" on Thursday. The weather was all that could be desired. About 50 visiting ladies wore present from the various clubs, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. An excellent lunch was provided in the Parnell Hall, and afternoon tea was handed round later on. The players were divided into two classes,, first and second. The second-class tournament was won by Miss Mason and Miss Preece, who defeated Misses M. Edwards and Withers in the final. The first-class included some of the best lady players in Auckland, 'and some very strong doubles were witnessed. In the final Mrs. Cooper and Miss Mowbray met and defeated Mrs. N. E. Burton and Miss A. Nicholson, after an interesting contest. Miss Mowbray, who was for several years Auckland's lady champion, played with much of the vigour which characterised her champion days, and Mrs. Cooper's steady placing, ably supported her partner. The prizes were handsome handbags and silver button-hooks, the losers in the finals being consoled with a bunch of grapes each. The whole affair was an unqualified success.
