[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Tuesday. MAORI CENSUS. The officers of the Native Department are busy taking the Maori census just now. No returns have been as yet sent in. NATIVE LAND* COURT. Judge. Davy is holding a Court at Kaiapoi, in the South Island, in appellate jurisdiction. DIVORCE. Thirty-nine petitions for dissolution of marriage were presented at 'the Divorce Court sittings in Wellington during the past year, and 25 decrees were granted. Five petitions for judicial separation were presented and three granted. Three decrees dismissing petitions were recorded. , LAND FOR CLOSE SETTLEMENT. I hear that the Government have bought 32 acres on the Heathcote River, in the South, for close settlement. The price is stated to have been at the rate of £90 per DAIRY PRODUCE. The fortnightly .shipment of dairy produce taken from the colony on Saturday by the Waiwera for London totalled 22,980cwt. There were 13,560cwt of butler and 5020cwt of cheese from the North Island, and 1160cwt of butter and 3240ewt of cheese from the South Island. . ARBITRATION. It was decided at a well-attended meeting of the Timberyards and Sawmills' Union, held at the Trocadero last night, " That the executive should take the necessary steps to call a meeting to consider the matter of citing a case for the Arbitration Court, as a great deal of dissatisfaction exists in regard to the present recommendations of the Boa:xl of Conciliation." NEW LINE OF STEAMERS. The steamer Otarama will sail from New Zealand for South Africa about March 9, under the new arrangement entered into by the New Zealand Shipping Company, the Tyser line, and the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company. She will call at Fremantle. Durban, A'lgoa Bay, and Capetown. The service will be a six-weekly one, and all the steamers employed will be fitted with refrigerating chambers. MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS ACT. The Wellington town clerk makes notification that persons qualified in more than one ward will inform him forthwith in which ward he. (or she) desires his (or her) name shall be placed. No person in future can be placed on the burgess roll of more than ore ward.
