A public meeting of Christchurch citizens, in the Exhibition Hall to-night, at which I 3000 were present, passed a resolution in t favour of harnessing the Waimakariri I River for the generation and transmission of f electical power to be used for industrial and other purposes in the city and district, and urging the City Council to take steps to inaugurate such a scheme. A Provisional Committee was appointed to take charge of the matter and procure information. The speakers were: The Mayor, Messrs. Dobson (City engineer), J. L. Scott, R. McDonald, A. W. Beaven, Chrystall, Loughnan, Booth, Bickerton, Fisher, McCulloch, C. M. Gray, T. E. Taylor, John Rennie, and A. E. G. Rhodes. The meeting was of a most enthusiastic character. '
