CONFERENCE OF MASTER BUILDERS.
[by TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION,] Christchurch, Monday. - A conference ' of master- builders was opened here this morning, for the purpose " of considering matters affecting the interests' of the trade. * The conference decided that the Council take into consideration a uniform set of conditions of contract for the whole colony, and the letting of Government 'contracts under the same conditions as private contracts ; that the conference represent to* the Government the injustice contractors suffer under, the Contractors and Workmen's Lien's Act, and that contractors should have a first lien on works contracted for. A motion passed that notice be given by the different associations to architects, that compensation be paid to the lowest tenderer in each case, where the work tendered for does not ' go on. The Council was asked to consider the question of taking out quantities, ,and fc - endeavour to bring about the adoption of the system in Australia and elsewhere.
