Mr. Pierce Lanigan, the well-known Auckland, contractor, has applied for 2000 acre* of land, to the south of the Taumaulunau I block, as a prospecting area for cinnabar.' ; He states that he has found the reef of cinnabar, which so many attempts have been made to secure. He has shown us sped- ' mens of very heavy cinnabar wash from the creeks, and a piece of the reef, which is ironstone, with a band,; or bands, of china-; bar running through it. The people here' are very pleased at Mr. Lanigan's t;ood fortune, as he is very much lilted, he having " been 01 many years a very successful contractor in the district, where he is remembered as a fair, liberal, and open-hearted
